 Cut out Frame

 

You will need:-

PSP9

A picture/photo to frame

A chunky font to cut out. Ive used Nip and Tuck

 

Open your chosen font file and reduce it to your task bar [this ensures it will appear in your fonts list when you use the ‘Text’ tool

Open your PSP and go to ‘File’ ‘Browse’, locate your picture , double click to open it and either leave it onscreen or reduce it down to the bottom out of the way.

 

Go to ‘File’ ‘New’ and open a new raster image 400 x 400 transparent.

In the ‘Materials’ palette, set the ‘Foreground and Stroke Properties’ box to ‘Pattern’

Click on the pattern which shows in the box to open the 'Material Properties' box, click the little arrow next to the pattern which shows there to open the menu.

 Select ‘Rice Paper’ and ‘ok’ it

 

Using the’ Floodfill’ tool click on your image to floodfill

 

You can leave the  ‘Foreground and Stroke Properties’ as it is but set the’ Background and Fill Properties’ box to ‘Colour’.

Choose any colour it doesn’t matter…. this is for the text and we will be deleting it.

Click on the ‘Text’ tool , and select your chunky font .Ive sized mine to 85. and set the stroke width to 0.0

Click on your image to open the ‘Text Entry’ box, and type in the first letter and ‘apply’

Drag the letter and position carefully. Once you’ve placed it and deselected you wont be able to move it without moving the background as the background and letters are all on the same layer.

 

‘Selections’’ Select None’ to deselect [to remove the marching ants]

  Click on your image again to open the ‘Text Entry’ box and type in the next letter, apply and drag into position, ‘Selections’’ Select None’ to deselect

Add the rest of your letters

‘Selections’  ‘Select None’ to deselect.

 

When you have all your text….click on the’ Magic Wand’

You might find it hiding in a sub menu

 

Hold down the shift key[thats the key under Caps Lock] and click the magic wand inside each of the letters so they have marching ants in each.

Press the ‘Delete’ key.

‘Selections’ ‘Select None’ to deselect

Click on the ‘Selection’ tool  and using 'Selection Type'‘Rectangle’.........

.........draw a rectangle shape next to your text.

 Use ‘Edit’ ‘Undo Selection’ if you place it wrongly and want to do it again

Press the  ‘Delete’ key

‘Selections’  ‘Select None’ to deselect

‘Selections’  ‘Select All’

‘Selections’  ‘Float’

This will give you marching ants round everything

 

Go to ‘Effects’  ‘3D Effects’ ‘ Cutout’

And apply these settings

Use the ‘cross arrows’ in the centre to move around the preview window for a better view

While still selected go to ‘Effects’ ‘3D Effects’ ‘Buttonise’ and set your settings to these

‘Selections’ ‘ Select None’

Go to’ Layers’, ‘New Raster Layer’

Drag the new layer [Raster2] to underneath Raster 1 in the ‘Layer’ palette as we want the picture behind the frame.

 

Click on your picture to activate it

Go to ‘Edit’ ‘Copy’

Click on your frame image to activate it and go to ‘Edit’ ‘Paste as New Selection’ and drag the picture into position. Click the mouse to place it.

‘Selections’  ‘Select None’ to deselect

 

Go to ‘Layers’ ‘New Raster Layer’, and this time, drag the new layer to the top in your ‘Layer’ palette

In the ‘Materials’ palette, set both the ‘Foreground and Stroke Properties’ and ‘Background and Fill Properties’ boxes to ‘Colour’.

Using the dropper tool,

select colours from your image ,….a left click of the mouse selects a colour for the 'Foreground and Stroke’ and a right click selects for the 'Background and Fill'.

  Click on the 'Text 'tool  and select an alternative font to the one you’ve just used. Change the ‘Stroke width’ to 1.0,

 

click on your image to open the text entry box , type your text and 'Apply'

'Selections' 'Select None'

 

Use the 'Move 'tool  to place the text  where you want it

You can use the ‘Raster Deform Tool’

to place it at an angle by dragging the little box to the right of the one in the centre

 

Click on the 'Move ' tool to remove the raster deform

Go to ‘Adjust’ ‘Sharpness’ ‘Sharpen’. This will sharpen your text as the deform tool [or any alteration to the original] makes it a little blurry

 

If you get an auto action prompt telling you the deform tool will reset, click ok

'File' 'Save as' a 'JPeg' or 'CompuServe Graphics Interchange (*.gif)
