Installing Figures and Content outside of DazStudio

Installing Figures, adding more content and managing your Runtime folders

If you have already added items and your Runtime is in a bit of a mess, you might want to start afresh, click here before continuing below.

Ok lets get started.

To avoid slowing down your DazStudio and to arrange folders how you would like them, you can download and install files in your own folders outside the Daz program itself, and then show Daz where to find them.

Make a folder in 'My Documents' or somewhere on your pc where you'll be able to find it. You are going to save everything Daz to here. Call the folder something like 'MyDazFolder' which I am using for the purpose of this tut.

Now, open 'MyDazFolder'  and in here we are going to make a few folders to start with, these will be for the free figures Aiko, Hiro, Michael 3 and Victoria 3 which you will be downloading in a few minutes.

Ok....  right click in the blank area in your 'MyDazFolder' and choose 'New' and 'Folder' and call the folder !Aiko [complete with ! This ensures the folder will stay near the top of your list when you have many folders]. Make another folder and call it !Michael3, another called !Victoria3 and another !Hiro. You can make other folders in here as time goes by to more easily categorise your items but for now keep it like this.

Oh and its an idea to make a folder to store zips and downloads so make another called 'Zips' [no inverted commas just the word]

Jj came up with a great idea of checking your items before you finally put them into your Daz folders because sometimes older downloads of items don't work or sometimes they are meant for programs other than DazStudio so are incompatible.

This has been the best way by far....so....in addition to the 5 folders you have , make another folder and call it  'Test' [no inverted commas just the word] We will be using this folder a bit later on.

Ok, this is what you should now have....

Now to download the set of figures, Aiko, V3, M3 and Hiro [p5free_content.zip] from download.com.

In the 'Download' window, click on 'Save' and find the new 'Zips' folder you've just made and save the download into it.

When its downloaded, double click the zip file and open it with winzip.

During the process, in a window headed 'Click on ''UnZip Now'' to unzip to selected folder', click on 'Select Different Folder' and find your new 'Zips' folder. When the download is complete you will see a folder next to your zip file......

......double click to open it and you will see your figures there ready for install

Copy, Paste and print from the * to * to notepad, to be able to follow it. While the installers are installing, you wont be able to refer back to here.

* Double click the ps_pe053_A3Base.exe.

It'll ask if you want to include an uninstaller, Yes.

At the Aiko3 Base Setup, click Next.

Licence Agreement, Yes.

Host Application.... in Target Application you should see Daz|Studio, if not use the drop down to get it. click Next.

Multiple Directories.... in the bottom bit check 'Specified folder' then click 'Browse, and browse to c:\My documents\MyDazFolder\!Aiko and 'Ok'

Click next, file will install, click next, take check out of view readme, and close.*

Now lets show Daz where to look for your files.

Open Daz, go to 'Edit', 'Preferences' click the 'Directories' Tab, click the down arrow

and from the drop down menu choose 'Poser Content Directories

Click 'Add' and browse to 'c:\My documents\MyDazFolder\!Aiko

 click 'OK'.......

*

  then 'Apply' and 'Accept'.

Aiko's folder will now appear in your 'Contents' list

and if you click the + next to her name and all the way down you can see whats in her folder. Click the - to close it.
