Simple Nametag

You will need :-
PSP9 [can be
done in any version]
A chunky font.
Ive used 'Impact' for this tutorial, a Windows default font which you should
find already listed in your PSP menu when you come to use the Text
Tool.
You can use a font of your choice downloaded from the net and
saved to a folder on your pc. If you do this you need to open the font and
reduce it to your taskbar or leave it onscreen and as long as it remains open it
will appear in your fonts menu in psp.
A
picture tube. Click
here if you'd like to download the one used in this tutorial.
Save to a
folder on your pc. You may remove our watermark if you wish by using the
eraser tool.
*******
Go to 'File' 'Browse' and locate the picture
tube in your folder. Double click on it to open it in its own window. Go to
'File' 'Export' 'Picture Tube'. Type a name for your tube and 'OK'. Your picture
tube will now be in the menu when you come to use the 'Picture Tube Tool'
Go to 'File' 'New' and open a 'New Raster
Image' 400 x 400 pixels

In the 'Materials' palette, click on the solid
black dot to select 'Colour'......

then click on the colour which appears in the
box...

This opens the 'Materials Properties'
Box. Select white and 'ok'

The colour white will now be in the 'Foreground
and Stroke Properties' box in your 'Materials' palette.

Click on the 'Floodfill Tool'
and click on your blank chequerboard to floodfill with white.
Go to 'Layers' and open a 'New Raster Layer'

your 'Layer' palette.
With 'Raster 2' highlighted in blue [active] in
your 'Layer Palette', click on the 'Picture Tube Tool'
Click on the image which appears in the
preview box on the 'Tools Options' palette
[yours will be a different picture to
the one here] This opens the picture tubes menu.

Find your picture tube and click on it to
select..

......it will appear in the little preview box.
Alter the scale down to about 70......

Click on your canvas to place the picture tube.
Go to 'Adjust' 'Sharpness' 'Sharpen' [any
resizing makes the images a little blurry, sharpening corrects that]
If you select the 'Move Tool'
you will be able to click and drag your lady anywhere on your image.
Now to add some text
Go to 'Layers' and open a 'New Raster Layer'
In the 'Materials Palette' set both the
'Foreground and Stroke Properties' box and the 'Background and Fill Properties'
box to 'Colour' if they are not already, by clicking on the solid black dot
under each.

Using the 'Dropper Tool'
run it over your image until you find a colour you'd like
to use for the outline
of your text and LEFT click your mouse.
That colour will now appear in the
'Foreground and Stroke Properties' box

To select a colour for the
fill, still using the
'Dropper Tool'
this time RIGHT click your mouse
on a colour you like on your image and it will
appear in the 'Background and Fill Properties' box

With 'Raster 3' highlighted in the 'Layer'
palette, click on the 'Text Tool'.
On the 'Tools Options' palette, click the down
arrow at the end of the bar under 'Font:'
and it will give you a menu of fonts.
Click on the one you want to select it.
Do the same for the 'Size' and set it to
size '72'. Make sure the 'Stroke width' [the outline of your text]
is set
to '1.0'. Have the 'Line Style:' set to a solid line and 'Create as:' set to
'Floating

Click on your image to open the 'Text
Entry' box and type in your text.

Click on 'Apply' and your text will appear on
your image surrounded by 'marching ants'.

With the marching ants still marching, go to
'Effects' '3D Effects' 'Inner Bevel' and apply these settings....

Then go to 'Effects' '3D Effects' 'Drop Shadow'
and apply these settings......

Go to 'Selections' 'Select None' to deselect
[get rid of marching ants]
If you hold your mouse over each Raster layer
in the 'Layer' palette you'll see whats on each layer.
To make the lady
appear more as if she is sitting on the letters we could do with the letters
being behind her.
So, click hold and drag 'Raster 3' to below 'Raster 2'

Use the 'Move Tool'
to click and drag your lady to where you want her on the letters.
With her layer
[Raster2] highlighted in the 'Layer 'palette, go to 'Effects' '3D Effects' 'Drop
Shadow'
and apply the same drop shadow to her as you did for the letters.
To crop your image, use the 'Crop Tool'
and draw it round your image.....

...then click on the tick
to crop .
Go to 'File' 'Save as' a JPEG [*.jpeg,*.jif,*.jpe,*.jpeg]
If you see this prompt.....

.........click 'Yes' to continue.
Try making name tags using different
picture tubes and fonts.
