Adding Text and a Frame

We will add text to a new layer, so go to 'Layers' 'New Raster Layer'.

In the 'Layer' palette, drag the new layer to the top so that your text will be on top of the flowers. If you want the text to go behind the flowers, drag the new layer so it lies below that of the flowers.

In the 'Materials' palette, 'Foreground and Stroke Properties' box, we want to change from 'Pattern' back to 'Colour'.

Click on the 'Pattern' icon to reveal the menu.....

  and select 'Colour'

Click on the colour which appears in the box and from the colour palette select a colour which will be the outline [stroke] of your text.

The box below the 'Foreground and Stroke Properties' box is the 'Background and Fill'

If yours is showing as 'Transparent', click on the 'Transparent' icon to remove it.

Select a colour for the fill of your text the same way as you did for the stroke.

Click on the 'Text Tool'    and the text toolbar will spring into life.

Select a 'Font' by clicking on the little arrow to the right of the 'Font' bar to reveal the menu.

Select a 'Size', the 'Units' will be 'Pixels'. Set the 'Stroke Width' to '1.0' and 'Create As' set to 'Floating'

Make sure the 'Line Style' is a solid line. (+solid)

Click on your image and this will open the 'Text Entry' box. Type in your text and 'Apply'. Your text will now appear on your image with 'Marching Ants' round it.

Hold your mouse over the text until your cursor changes to that of a 'Move Tool' [crossed arrows] then click and drag your text into position.

Go to 'Selections' 'Select None' to 'Deselect'  [remove the 'Marching Ants']

Go to 'Effects' '3D Effects' 'Drop Shadow'. The drop shadow will have kept the same settings as you used before.

Go to 'Layers' 'Merge' 'Merge Visible'. This merges all your layers onto the one layer.

If you like, to finish off you can add a frame. There are a few already in your psp programme.

Click on 'Image' 'Picture Frame'

This opens the 'Picture Frame' window...click on the frame showing to open the menu....

...and select a frame.

Remember the 'Edit' 'Undo.....' option if you dont like the frame and want to choose another.

To save....go to 'File' 'Save as' and that will open the 'Save as' window.

In the bar at the top, click the down arrow at the right end of the bar and find the folder you want to save the file in.

At the bottom of the window, type a name for your file.

At the  end of the 'Save as Type' bar, click the down arrow to open a menu of file types.

Select ' JPG JPEG (*.jpg,*.jif,*.jpe,*.jpeg) and click on 'Save'

If you see this prompt, click 'Yes'.
