Adding Glitter to a Graphic

You will need :-

  • PSP 9 and Animation Shop

  •  [can also be done in other versions of psp but the screenshots may differ]

  • Visit Corel.com for a free trial of the latest version of psp and to purchase Animation Shop

  •  

  • A picture tube or graphic of your choice.

The picture tubes used in this tutorial are from Tubes By Amanda

  • A 3 framed glitter which you can download from one of the many sites offering these free for personal use or you could have a go at Making your own Glitter  an easy tutorial

 

( This tutorial shows a 3 frame glitter...if you wish to use a glitter with more frames you have to duplicate your layers accordingly when you reach ** )

Go to 'File' New' and open a 'New Image' 300 x 300 pixels, transparent.

In the 'Materials' palette, click on the colour which appears in the 'Foreground and Stroke Properties' box......

...which will open the 'Materials Properties' box, click on a colour you wish to use for the background and click 'OK'

That colour will now appear in the 'Foreground and Stroke Properties' box.

Using the 'Floodfill Tool' click on your blank canvas to floodfill with the colour.

Click on the 'Picture Tube Tool' ....

....click on the picture which appears on the toolbar and select  the picture tube you want to use from the menu.

If the picture tube you wish to use isnt there, go to 'File' 'Browse' and locate your picture, double click to open it so that it opens in its own window...then go to 'File' 'Export' 'Picture Tube', give the tube a name and 'OK' it. It should now appear in your tubes menu when you next click on your 'Picture Tube Tool'.

You might need to scale down the size of the tube...you can do this on the toolbar.

Click once on your canvas to place the tube, this will place the picture on the same layer as the background. If its still too large or too small you can remove it by going to 'Edit' 'Undo Picture Tube' and do it again.

 

Open Animation Shop.

Go to 'File' 'Browse', locate your glitter and double click to open it.

Click on 'Edit' 'Select All' to select all the frames of your glitter...the edges turn blue.

Go to 'Edit' 'Copy'

In PSP, click on 'Edit' 'Paste' 'Paste Animation as Multiple Images'

NB Earlier versions of PSP do not have the 'Paste Animation as Multiple Images' option so open your glitter as usual in Animation Shop, click on the first frame to activate, go to 'Edit' 'Copy'...in PSP click on 'Edit' 'Paste' 'Paste as new Image'. Go back to AS, click the 2nd frame to activate, 'Edit' 'Copy'.....in PSP click 'Edit' 'Paste as New Image'. Repeat with the 3rd frame.

Your frames of glitter will now open like this ..each frame in a seperate little window

 

Click on the top bar of your main image to activate [bar turns blue]

In the 'Layer' palette, right click on 'Raster1' and select 'Duplicate'...right click that and select 'Duplicate' again so you have 3 layers altogether.

[If you have say a 5 frame** glitter duplicate so you have 5 layers altogether]

'X' out all the layers [click on the eye at the end of the line] except the bottom one and click on the bottom one to activate.

Select the 'Magic Wand Tool'   and set your settings to these......

With the 'Magic Wand' click on your image on the part/s  you want to add the glitter to, so that its surrounded in 'marching ants'.You may have to click a few times to select all of the places you want.

In the 'Materials' palette select 'Pattern' 

 

Click on the pattern which appears in the box...and this will open the 'Materials Properties' box

 

Click on the pattern which appears in the 'Materials Properties' box to open the menu and click on the first of your 3 glitter frames.

This will appear in the box in 'Material Properties'...click on 'OK' and it now appears in your 'Materials' palette.

Using the 'Floodfill Tool' click on your image in the places where you used the magic wand, to floodfill with the glitter.

In the 'Layer' palette...'X' out the bottom layer..un 'X' the next one and click on it to activate. [your magic wand selection will still be selected] 

In the 'Materials' palette, click on the pattern showing in the 'Foreground and Stroke properties' box.... which will open the 'Materials Properties' box like before. Find the 2nd glitter fame, click on it to select and 'OK' it.

Using the 'Floodfill Tool ' click on your image to floodfill the areas with your 2nd glitter.

 

In the 'Layer' palette, 'X' out that layer too and un'X' the last layer...click on it to acivate.

In the 'Materials' palette, click on the pattern like before and locate the 3rd frame of your glitter

...and 'OK' it.Use the 'Floodfill Tool' again to floodfill your areas.

Go to 'Selections' 'Select None'  to deselect [to get rid of the 'Marching Ants'].

 

Un 'X' all the layers.

Click on the bottom one to highlight and go to 'Edit' 'Copy'

Over in Animation Shop click on 'Edit' 'Paste' 'Paste as New Animation'.

Go back to PSP and click on the 2nd layer...'Edit' 'Copy' ..go over to Animation Shop and click 'Edit' and this time click on 'Paste after Current Frame.

Back to PSP and click on the remaining layer 'Edit' 'Copy'......over to Animation Shop and 'Edit' 'Paste', 'Paste after Current Frame'

Use the 'View Animation' icon to see your animation.

Go to 'File' 'Save as' a 'CompuServe Graphics Interchange *(.gif).
